Director’s Welcome Aboard Message:

As I take over DIRAUX D1 SR, first let me say what a privilege it is to be working with one of the most active Auxiliary districts in the Coast Guard. I have been continually impressed as I have visited each division. I would like to thank all of you who have extended such a warm welcome to me, and I look forward to visiting the rest of the divisions in the near future.

I would like to share some guidance on my expectations. I see Safety, Pride, Professionalism and Camaraderie as the building blocks for a great unit.

Safety: There is no excuse to compromise on safety. If we are going to conduct Coast Guard missions on land, sea or air, we must do so safely. We must follow established procedures and policies outlined by CG, Aux and applicable government organizations. We increase our margin of safety through training and education, conducting proper risk analysis and exercising good judgment.

Pride: I encourage each and every one of you to become fully involved in the organization. To enhance our operations look outside the box for unique solutions to challenges posed and be proactive in finding ways to enhance Coast Guard operations. Wear your uniform proudly and correctly. Ask questions about the uniform if you are not sure how to wear it and correct your peers immediately when the uniform is worn inappropriately. Remember you are a direct reflection of the Coast Guard and CG AUX whenever you are in uniform and your actions can positively or negatively influence the general public.

  •  Professionalism: We will operate as professionals or we will not operate. We will train regularly to keep skills sharp and we will operate just as we train. Know your limitations. If you are uncomfortable with a mission assignment, be honest and let the mission be reassigned to another crew. This will in no way affect your future utilization for Coast Guard missions, but it will demonstrate your ability to exercise good judgment. We all have different experience levels and some crews will be a better fit for certain missions.
  • Camaraderie: We are all part of the CG family, take care of each other. We all have our moments of joy and sadness, be there to celebrate the high points and be there for your shipmates to lean on during the low points. You are not here to earn a paycheck, you’re here because you enjoy the mission, so have fun doing it. Enjoy the fellowship and capitalize on all opportunities to celebrate!
  • I look forward to working with you and continuing to keep D1SR leading the fleet!
